Yes Ron Turner is gone and was made the scapegoat. His quarterbacks coach, as well as the tight ends coach and offensive line coaches were all let go today. There’s only one problem, the main part of the equation remains, the McCaskey’s, Ted Phillips, Jerry Angelo, and Lovie Smith, which equals continued disaster. After listening to today’s 2pm comedy act (a.k.a. a press conference) at Halas Hall, I was purely astonished by the arrogance of the group and walked away from it with anger and disbelief. . Talk about pissing me off even more than I already was from this very disappointing, lousy, promises unfulfilled 2009-10 season. First off, Ted Phillips starts by kissing up to the fans by saying,”The fans did their part.” Really, no kidding? They dished out money to watch that pathetic product that was placed on the field, payed out well earned money for over priced team merchandise, and invested way too much emotion into a poorly managed and under-motivated Chicago Bears football team. Yes the Bear’s fans did their part, and admittedly Phillips said the Bears management didn’t do theirs, after which he only talked in circles the when answering questions the rest of the time during his part of the press conference. He said that, “Jerry and Lovie knows what it takes to win.” “They both brought us a championship contending team, they did it together.” “They are aware of the mistakes that were made and they are both welcoming change.” (LOL) “And in my opinion, when you have change, you are bringing new ideas, you’re bringing in new energy, you’re bringing in new passion, and that will help the players our players become the best players they can be.” Give me a break Change you say?
So much talk of change and really no evidence of it. Yes there may be a new Offensive coordinator on the way to the Bears, as well as a defensive coordinator and other assistant coaches, but Angelo and Smith remain a constant. As evident by anyone listening to the press conference, neither Angelo or Smith are really changing though they sure talked about change a lot. Lovie Smith said that as long as he was the head coach of the Chicago Bears the Bears would run the Tampa Bay cover 2. Angelo he even said he wouldn’t change anything but mistakes were made. What? Let’s get serious, You mean to tell me that the only problem with this season was Turner and the rest of the coaches that were fired? No, there are far too many factors involved. Poor, undisciplined play, injuries, coaching decisions, poor game planning, the list goes on. The real factor comes down to money.
The McCaskey’s or the Bears have always been accused of being cheap. I don’t necessarily agree with that statement. Recently they have gone out and paid players like Urlacher, Briggs, Cutler, Harris, and Hester. They resigned and restructured Lovies contract. The problem lies in that they have not spent their money wisely, and the only reason Lovie and Angelo are not packing with the rest of the coaches let go today is totally because of money. They don’t want to take the financial hit of paying Smith and Angelo for doing nothing, bringing in a new management only to have a lock out in the 2011 season. That is the bottom line. So to the Bears organization, stop the b.s.. We see through it and we know what is up. Save kissing up to the fans and if you are really serious about change clean house. This is really getting old. More to come.
